At the start of a new year, we always make resolutions to lose weight, get fitter, earn more money and so on!

However, as businesses, we rarely look at new resolutions, but it’s time we did! Especially as in 2013 new media, or social media as it’s correctly known is going to be ever-more important to marketing efforts.

The great thing about Social Media, is it’s free if you do it yourself and it’s very, very effective when undertaken with sustained commitment. It’s a great way to build relationships with customers, get feedback, make new contacts and really get to know what’s working and what’s not.

Many businesses begin with great vigour, setting up Facebook and Twitter pages, posting messages and perhaps writing their first blog. However, once that’s done – the beast needs feeding to build momentum and achieve success, but unfortunately orders needs processing, invoices creating, business matters need dealing with and social media management has to wait its place in the queue… and wait.. and wait…

Customers then get fed up with a lack of engagement and go elsewhere, usually to one of your competitors who is using social media to its max.
